VÆV: Et Interactivt Netværk for Danske Grønne Græsrødder

Welcome to the Danish Green Grassroots Interactive Network and Database!

This project is based on the PACA Database consisting of 160 Green grassroots organisations in Denmark. The aim is to visualise the connections between these organisations to help strengthen existing collaborations and initiate new ones.

The idea

The initial database as set up by PACA (the Centre for Mobilizing Post-Anthropocentric Climate Action at the University of Southern Denmark). Their aims were to have universities act as mediators among green grassroots. As PACA explains:

"Based on this web of grassroots, we will analyze and collaborate with some of these actors in order to identify and support their aims, activities, strategies, ideological assumptions, successes and barriers. The database also serves as a tool to create alliances and cooperation between actors themselves as a kind of information service and will be updated during the coming years. If you think that we’ve missed someone, please let us know. Thanks to all for agreeing to be a part of it!"

However, the original PACA "web of grassroots" was represented by a simple table that did not map out any existing alliances or cooperations. This is when we decided this should change, and we set up a database and webinterface to create a network between the green grassroots that were already in the database. PACA is cheering on the further development of their database and happy to collaborate. Clicking on people or organisations shows their info in the panel on the right. Anything in the network can be clicked and dragged around too. And the whole network can be filtered by some organisation properties. Apart from the network view itself, we will include a catalogue of people and organisations that are interested in collaborations. It is important to distinguish between the different types of collaborations each person/organisation is interested in. This can for example be knowledge exchange, freelance work, volunteering work, setting up projects or organising events together. It should be clear what type of collaboration you can approach someone for, as there's obviously a limit to volunteering work. It should also be clear that we want to stimulate connections between grassroots or those benefiting grassroots. We are working on putting measures in place to protect against greenwashing of initiatives and projects that are not inherently PACA.
